Situated on RAZIM-SINOIE Lagoons shore, JURILOVCA is a village founded by lippovans at the beginning of 19-th century. Although at the origin a hamlet, the settlement grown up becoming, in the late of 19-th century, an important fishing center in Danube Delta area. Nowadays is the biggest community of fishermen in Danube Delta also an important touristic attraction. Lippovans - the founders of the village - are Russians who initially took refuge at the Mouths of the Danube, in Southern Bessarabia, in the middle of 18-th century and, then they migrated in Dobrudja and Northern Moldavia - Bukovina.     The initial migration reason was religious reform initiated by Nikon - RUSSIAN CHURCH Patriarch - in 1654, reform that generated a schism into RUSSIAN CHURCH. Thus it comes in to being two confessions: RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH - the official one or nikonian one - and, STAROVERS (OLD BELIEVERS) - those who are in old religion or in old faith, the schismatics, who being persecuted by the church and by the authorities, they will find shelter at the TSARDOM OF RUSSIA frontier: Siberia, at the Don Cossacks, Ukraine, Poland, Canada and at the MOUTHS OF THE DANUBE. Only Starovers (Old Believers) from Romania are named Lippovans - likely as a nickname, which origin wasn't defined. The space, which offered hosting for these persecuted people, was inhabited since the oldest times (all around the village being identified many archeological places). The most ancient traces of dwelling stands since early Iron Age (8-th century B.C.) and belongs to Babadag Culture. To this aboriginal population, the Getae, succeeded to Greek colonists who founded - according to ancient sources (Hecataeus of Miletus) - the first Greek colony from Romanian teritory: ORGAME (7-th century B.C.). This colony is placed in the South-Eastern extremity of     Dolosman Cape, in Antiquity on Halmirys Gulf shore at Euxisinos Pontos (Black Sea). The history of this settlement will be related by political evolution and by environment evolution. The incorporation of Dobrudja in Scythia Minor as part of Roman Empire, then in Byzantine Empire will have more functions: 1)economical - being a fishing agricultural and commercial center in the area; 2)strategical - it will controle, beside of a fortification on the Isle of Bisericuta (3 km far from the citadel), the access in Danube Delta (Peuce), having an important role in defending of the northern imperial border (Danubian limes); 3) religious - important center of Christianity at the Mouths of the Danube (onto citadel teritory were discovered four Paleo-Christian basilica). The reason of the decline and at last the ceasing of the citadel (7-th century A.D.) it is represented by the Halmirys Gulf sand-damming, which made heavier the access of the vessels in the citadel harbour, the diminution of its economical and strategical importance.
